Hi! My name is Monique Bragg, I live in New York City and I’m 17 years old. I am African American and Native American. I am a senior at Soho Communications Art Academy at Chelsea Vocational High School and have many goals. In school, my elective is Art. Over the past years we have learned the software programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Fireworks and Adobe Dreamweaver.

In school, I have achieved being Vice President of the Junior class and Secretary for Senior Class. As for my extracurricular activities, I have gotten an MVP in Softball and currently am on the Girls Varsity Basketball team. I have also been taking many dance classes that have enabled me to perform in several shows.

While getting my education and being involved in these extracurricular activities, I have been employed at Goddard Riverside Community Center. At this program, several teens are picked to work in the many branches of the company. At the program, I worked with children from ages 5 to 13 with their homework assignments and participated in recreational activities with them. At this program I have also been doing some volunteer work. Some of my volunteer work includes me working as a cashier at an annual book fair and going to Albany, New York to fight for more money in the budget for summer jobs.

My major goal right now is to finish high school and graduate to get into college. My hopes and dreams are either to become a nurse practitioner, a police office or professional choreographer. Another goal of mine is to one day own a house and be able to financially support myself. One day, I also want to have a family and be able to support them too.

Things that are driving me to want to do this are the support of my friends, family and teachers. With all this encouragement, it’s making me feel like nothing can stand in my way of my dreams.

My interests include dancing, working with young children, writing and helping others. So far all of these things are helping shape the person that I am today.
