Hello, my name is Vicky Xu, and I attend Chelsea’s Soho Arts Academy. I am currently a senior who's enrolled in three AP classes. I love to read and write during my free time, and I cannot live without music. In school I am very well rounded. I play a role in student government, the yearbook committee, and the National Honors Society. I plan to graduate high school and attend college. That is my short-term goal, and I am confident that I will achieve that goal. My long-term goal though, is to become successful and earn enough money to travel around the world. I can see myself ten years from now, typing away in an office building of a renowned fashion magazine, in my own grandiose office. I would be the director or manager of a team of thirty, and everyone would look up to me with respect and admiration. I can already see my future blossoming, but since I am still in high school, I must concentrate on my current assignments and achievements.

From my time here at Chelsea, I have learned to use many design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Fireworks. I’ve also learned HTML, and have created simple websites. Of all the projects I’ve had in the past, I decided to display only a few of them. The projects that I’ve chosen are unique, vibrant, and attention grabbing. Most importantly, they have my up most approval, while the others lack flavor. Having experimented with these programs, I think Illustrator is the most interesting. It is easier to create vectors using this program as compared to Photoshop where the pen tool is more complicated. The vectors created in this program are well defined and are always of high quality. Because I am not an expert at Illustrator, I am more intrigued by it; therefore I would like to learn more about it.

Prospective students of Chelsea High School should definitely take these graphic design classes. Many students lack these resources at home, so taking these classes is an opportunity to experience new things, and who knows, maybe these classes will affect their profession when they enter the real world. Above it all, graphic design classes are fun and out of the ordinary. Students take math, English, science, and history classes all their life, wouldn’t it be nice to try something different?
